When I started KYLA and was told we needed to create a project that would benefit our community I knew right away that I wanted to do a 3 on 3 basketball tournament. I wanted to do one just because I love the game of basketball and if you are doing a project that you are passionate about it just makes it that much easier! The reason why the name of the 3 on 3 basketball tournament is called "Hoops for Haiti" is because Haiti has always held a special place in my heart. I am so blessed to be able to say this summer I am going there on a mission trip and I cannot be more excited! The two charities we chose to benefit are Saint Nicholas Church in Kenscoff, Haiti and also I chose to benefit Nehemaiah Vision Ministries Clinic in Chambrum, Ouest, Haiti. I chose Saint Nicholas because my Church, Sacred Heart, sponsors them and is a main supplyer for their needs. I chose the Nehemaiah Vision Ministries Clinic because our family friend Brooke Smalley lives in Haiti and works at the clinic there. I wanted to benefit these two great organizations because they are definitley fulfilling God's plans and changing our world for the better!

There are many reasons why I wanted to do Hoops for Haiti. I've always liked helping people who are in need. Helping people is exactly what this project is going to do. It is also an excellent way to bring the community together. 3-on-3 basketball tournaments tend to draw people in and are a lot of fun. I am very excited to see how it turns out!

Thanks for wanting to learn more about "Hoops for Haiti" and why we chose this great cause! This year both of us individuals, Anne Secrest and Hannah Brower decided to join KYLA, which stands for "Kosciusko Youth Leadership Academy". KYLA is where a group of young leaders from schools from the area go to different businesses around our area and we learn about them and what their business does and how it works. While traveling to different businesses along the way we learned about leadership skills and how we can apply them to our lives. Below is a short paragraph from both of us explaining "Hoops for Haiti" and why we chose this project!
